Y’all meet our friend, Sarah. I have so many amazing 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 vendors to introduce you to! But I knew our first one had to introduce @sarahdeanphoto ⁣

Sarah and I met as I first entered the wide world of weddings. One of my first few weddings was with her by my side! I was instantly captured by her servant’s heart and her straight 𝗝𝗢𝗬 for those around her. Not only does is she an amazing creative, she’s an amazing soul. ⁣

Since then, we’ve shared so many moments together— styled shoots, events, coffee and many beautiful wedding days. She quickly moved beyond a ‘friendor’ to just straight 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱. ⁣

The term ‘𝘸𝘦𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨’ has really become an all-inclusive term. Believe it or not, there’s a few different types of weddings we could be referencing when using that phrase. ⁣
⁣
Let’s break it down! ⁣

• 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆: ⁣
This one’s easy! The wedding ceremony is what “𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺” — name that movie 😉. The ceremony is the official act of uniting two souls in marriage. The ceremony can take different forms, civil or religious, and can be as unique or traditional as what speaks to you, and is the only requirement to having a wedding. ⁣
⁣
• 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆: ⁣
Minimonies are smaller versions of the ceremony, usually 10 people or fewer, including a photographer and officiant. To host a minimony, gather an officiant, photographer, and your closest loved ones, and head to the location. This can be on the beach or in your backyard, as long as it feels special to y’all. Once you’re there, exchange your vows, take photos, and soak in every second of this special moment with your partner and loved ones. ⁣

• 𝗘𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: ⁣
When you think of elopements, images of couples running to city hall or heading to a dreamy mountaintop probably pass through your mind. Elopements are intimate unions, typically between the couple, an officiant, and a witness. If you and your partner want to get married quickly or just prefer to share this special moment in private, this might be the best choice for you!⁣

• 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: ⁣
Micro weddings are quite literally smaller versions of traditional weddings, meant for 50 people or fewer. The event timeline will start with the ceremony, followed by a cocktail hour and reception, and will include all of the traditions that are important to the couple. ⁣

• 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗦𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴:⁣
aka — THE PARTY 💃 Think food, drinks, dancing and fun as we celebrate the newly married couple. Technically, you can still have a wedding without hosting a reception. But looking at Sarah’s face in this final photo, we’re not sure we’d want to! ⁣

𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿: Of course I have to start here! Start with your wedding planner (even day-of coordinator) to gain quality vendor recommendations and a lot less headache when sourcing your team⁣
⁣
𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲: THE BIGGIE! No venue -> No wedding date. This is the bounce off point to book all your other vendors ⁣
⁣
𝟮.𝟱 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀: We’ll count this as a half— if you’re planning a fall wedding in Kansas City, I suggest securing your room blocks as soon as you have your venue + date. (𝘖𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘶𝘱 𝘘𝘜𝘐𝘊𝘒, 𝘺’𝘢𝘭𝘭!) If you’re not looking at fall, there’s a bit more flexibility, but still ideally securing before sending Save the Dates ⁣

𝟯. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿: Once you’ve got your venue booked + date locked in, it’s time to find your perfect fit 📸! Because photographers can usually only book one wedding a day/weekend, make this category a priority to snag your top pick. Another benefit to having this done early is engagement photos can be used for Save the Dates! ⁣

𝟰.𝟱 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿: If you anticipate sending out Save the Dates, this is your next stop 📝 Only sending invitations? This can bump down the list as the final vendor ⁣
⁣
𝟱. 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮: Similar to your venue and photographer, your videographer can only take one wedding a day/weekend. So make sure to snag them up if videography is on your priority list! ⁣
⁣
—Everything from here on out can be pretty interchangeable, based on the vision for your wedding, with final vendor secured by 5 months out— ⁣

⁣Oooo this is a tough one! There are SO many pieces of advice I could say are “my best” *𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘨 😏* But today, the best piece of advice I can offer is this— remember that wedding planning is a 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻 not a 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵. ⁣

Wedding inspiration, wedding planning, and wedding purchases can quickly become all consuming. We become overwhelmed with information and begin to believe that if we aren’t focused on wedding planning 24/7 in the off-time that it won’t be a successful, stress free event. ⁣

I’m here to tell you the opposite! (𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘐?!) Step back and take a breath. Time block your schedule to include just a handful of hours dedicated towards wedding planning and wedding conversation each week. Focus the rest of your time on together-activities and truly allow yourself some stress free time 🖤⁣
