This Is What Happens When A Wedding Planner Gets Engaged | Whatever Is Lovely Events

When a wedding planner gets engaged, you can bet it’s going to be epic with all the details perfectly planned by a sweet soon-to-be-fiance who knows anything wedding-related is sacred. But what happens when a wedding planner unknowingly plans her own proposal with the help of another wedding planner and a group of amazingly talented creatives?? This magical garden proposal at one of Kansas City’s best engagement spots!

The newly-engaged gal I’m referring to is our own lead planner, Nikki.

Planning The Proposal

Russ and I have known each other for years. He’s actually one of my baby brother’s best friends! So when he started his barber business, I knew he was quality and have recommended him time and time again for styled shoots and wedding days.

When he reached out to me early this year with the idea of proposing to Nikki we went back and forth on how he should do it and where in Kansas City would be the best place to get engaged at. Together, we came up with the ruse of them posing as one of our bridal couples for a styled shoot at Colonial Gardens. Because what better way to surprise a wedding planner with her engagement than with a styled shoot she unknowingly helped plan?!

Almost Getting Caught

The first hour of the shoot ran pretty standard, minus one key piece – the ring! Nikki commented on the lack of wedding rings for a styled shoot, but this star engagement planner easily deflected her concerns without raising suspicion.

The Proposal

As we got to the perfectly stunning location, I prompted our models for a First Look shot. Nikki and Russ were to read what would appear to be handwritten love notes to each other before going into the styled First Look. Except, Nikki’s letter was a real letter from Russ!

We won’t share the whole letter, but let’s just say, our tears were starting to roll. By the last few lines, she began to understand that this was no normal styled, First Look. While she was turned away from him, Russ got down on one knee, waiting for her to reach the end of his love note. As she reached the last words…Will You Marry Me?….she looked to me for confirmation of “Is this truly happening?!” And turned around to see the love of her life down on one knee.

Celebrating Their Engagement

After Russ popped the question, we celebrated with a toast of bubbly and more pictures! This “styled shoot” was so memorable and the perfect way to propose! Ironically, in all the excitement of her own engagement, Nikki was a little overwhelmed with where to start in the wedding planning process, so we put together a list of 7 things to do after you get engaged.

Let us know what you guys think about this surprise proposal and check out our guide on how to start the wedding planning process!
