The key to finding a wedding photographer you love? A little bit of research and a whole lot of reviews! Referrals from past brides or vendors who have worked with your photographer are the best way to find the right one for you and your groom. Because beyond pretty photos, you need someone who can expertly manage timelines, wrangle wedding parties, and who you trust and feel comfortable with. And who best to do the research for you, than a couple of wedding planners who have been around the block a time or two?!
If you missed the last two features in our new KC wedding vendor guides, we introduced you to Fiore Floral Studios and Bailey Pianalto Photography. And because we can’t get enough of her gorgeous photos, we decided to share another favorite photographer of ours – Kelsey from Kelsey Diane Photography!
Interview questions answered by Kelsey Diane Photography
Kansas City (obvs) but I travel though! I’d LOVE to do a Colorado, California, Washington wedding, etc. I’ve done a couple of Florida weddings and I’ve traveled to St. Louis as well. As far as locally, I offer up to 3 hours roundtrip of travel.
I start at $2800 for 8 hours and go up to 4000+. My middle package has been QUITE popular for next year and includes full-day coverage, 2 shooters, an engagement session, and a downloadable gallery so you can easily share your favorites on social media!
There are a few industry trends that I’d love to see next year because I’m still so obsessed with them:
Mismatched bridesmaids dresses are a trend that I have loved seeing coming to light this past year. Having different bridesmaids colors and styles is a great way to save money for your bridesmaids and for them to pick something they’d normally wear and are comfortable in way past your wedding date.
I also absolutely adore couples incorporating their fur babies at weddings in some capacity. Having a friend bring your pup over for a few photos is a great way to include them in part of your day, or incorporating them in reception decor such as photos, a cocktail named after them, or even having them walk down the aisle!
I also think that bouquets that are large, contained, but also lightweight will become big. Lightweight bouquets DO EXIST! Along with incorporating more color instead of setting yourself to an exact palette – let your florist have some fun and go wild!
My ultimate goal as a wedding photographer is for brides and grooms to have a wide variety of gorgeous images that not only reflect their wedding day, but their love and relationship. I strive to make every single couple feel completely and utterly comfortable in front of the camera, so not only do they feel amazing but their images truly reflect them as people.
I don’t follow the same process for each duo; every pair is different, special and unique. That’s what makes my job so amazing! I am constantly introduced to new love stories. I want to form a relationship with each couple that stands long after the wedding day. I am not the photographer that will show up, take photos, and leave; I am there to help you with those pesky bracelet clasps, button your dress, keep those groomsmen in line, and pin boutonnieres.
In addition to those things, I will also remind you to take a deep breath and assure you that everything will be fine. Wedding days can be stressful and I’m here to take away that stress. I create a timeline with each one of my couples so that they have a better idea of how their day will go. I’m open to constant communication to answer any questions you may have up until your big day.
Photographers are there to, of course, document your day – but I can’t stress enough how much you need to LOVE your photographer too! You need to be utterly obsessed with them because guess what? You are going to spend the most time with your photographer on your wedding day. You need to gel in a way that you are comfortable telling them just about anything. Photographers have seen everything that can happen on a wedding day and we are here to help! So do not skimp out on your photographer. This is possibly the only day of your entire life where all these family and friends will be in one place. Not just anyone should be hired to capture such an event.
We LOVE working with Kelsey Diane Photography! Kelsey infuses such warmth and joy into wedding days–both for her couples and for those around her.
