Today we’re taking a little break from wedding planning to help you plan something equally fun and exciting – your honeymoon! It doesn’t matter if you’re going on a 4-day road-trip or a 2-week European adventure, planning your honeymoon can be overwhelming. And since it’s likely to be a much more expensive trip than your average beach vacation, it would make sense to need a little extra help organizing all the details.
A travel agent can do so much more than just booking your flights and accommodations! They can create an entire travel itinerary with things to do, places to eat, currency assistance, and cultural tips. Our friend Hayley, from Destinations HD, is here to share all the reasons why you should hire a travel agent to help plan your dream honeymoon.
Good agents tend to sell destinations that they know VERY well. Usually from personal trips but also from having a strong connection to the destination via specialized training and an extensive network of knowledgeable suppliers and other agents. That kind of knowledge can’t come from an hour on TripAdvisor and is crucial to assisting someone to find the perfect travel destination that is suited to what they want to experience.
It’s a very personal undertaking, assisting people with how they’re going to spend their very special vacation time and hard-earned money and even more of a benefit today when the world is seemingly at your fingertips. The amount of information and options is – quite honestly – overwhelming.
The time that it takes to research destinations, accommodations, transportation options, reputable tour operators, currency, weather, etc. adds up quickly. Not to mention the added stress of understanding all the new travel requirements for entry or return due to COVID-19.
In this fast-paced busy world, with barely enough hours in a day…who has the time to for all of that?! Especially on top of wedding planning! These days we’re getting our groceries delivered, our pets walked, and our taco nights dropped off at the door so that we have time to take care of basic necessities – it just makes sense to hire a travel professional to take care of the leg work for your honeymoon so that all you have to do is figure out how many bathing suits is too many to pack! *answer: the limit does not exit*
Sure it can seem easy to use an online booking engine…if you want to cross your fingers and hope that you’re not one of the millions of people who have a question about the property, flights, the location, or things to do…and that’s not even getting into the ‘What Ifs’ when something goes wrong!
Using these sites can often lead to frustration, anger, and loss of investment when an issue arises and travelers have no one they can reach out to and discuss options with, or who can be their advocate to handle the problem. Most travel planners will be available to speak with you no matter when you call, versus just dropping you on hold with a call center.
For example, did you know that if you book directly with a foreign property overseas and something happens to affect your stay, your refund (if they even give you one) can be in the foreign currency, subject to exchange fees, and could take up to 6 months to process? You might not know that, but your travel planner does and will have options in place to protect you from such an occurrence.

Oftentimes, your travel planner will be able to get you better deals and discounts than what you’d secure through a booking site— and who doesn’t want to save so they have extra money to spend for vacay shopping?! *that commemorative t-shirt is calling your name, sis!* More importantly, a travel agent knows how to spot the “too good to be true” deals.
They’ll make sure you don’t fall into sneaky marketing traps, leaving you in a hotel’s sister property located three blocks away, or on a flight that has a 12-hour layover and 3 stops when there should only be one. Travel planners give you more bang for your buck, so even when you pay what appears to be the same price, you’re getting a whole lot more value for your dollar.
